Old Georgians vs Richmond: Premier Division Showdown

04/10/2024

This Saturday, Old Georgians Men’s 1XI, coached by Ashley Jackson, will take on Richmond M1 at St George's College in a Premier Division clash that brings together the oldest and newest clubs in the league.

Richmond, founded in 1874, celebrate their 150th season, while Old Georgians, established in 1995, are the reigning champions with a strong start to the season.

Richmond’s promotion to the Premier Division has been hard-earned, but they’ve struggled in their opening games, suffering heavy defeats to Surbiton (0-8) and Beeston (1-3). Despite these results, Richmond are eager to turn their fortunes around and secure their first points in the top tier.

Old Georgians, by contrast, have enjoyed an excellent start to their title defence, scoring 14 goals across their first two games and establishing themselves as the team to beat. Key players like Sam Ward and Tom Carson have already made significant contributions, and the team will look to maintain their momentum against Richmond.

Ashley Jackson, OG’s player-coach, is keen to keep the team focused, emphasising the importance of consistency. “Depsite there first few results in the Premier division we are expecting a tough team that will pose us with some challenges. It's vital we maintain our intensity and take nothing for granted..”

Richmond, celebrating their historic 150th season, will aim to showcase their resilience and prove their Premier Division credentials, while Old Georgians will be keen to keep their unbeaten run going. The contrast in history and trajectory between these two teams adds extra intrigue to the fixture, with OGs representing modern dominance and Richmond bringing the weight of their rich history.
