Old Georgians Ladies 1XI Secure First Home Points with Stalemate Against Wapping

15/10/2024

Old Georgians Ladies 1XI played out a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Wapping in their Women's Conference East clash at St George's College on Saturday. After suffering a defeat in their opening home game, OGs were determined to secure their first home points of the season.

Despite dominating possession for long stretches and creating several promising opportunities, the team could not break down a well-organised Wapping defence. Both teams demonstrated defensive discipline, but neither could find the cutting edge required to take all three points.

The game saw Old Georgians press forward from the outset. However, Wapping's structure, particularly in the defensive third, made it difficult for OGs to find space. Wapping also managed to create a few chances of their own, but neither side could convert.

Old Georgians came close on several occasions, with opportunities falling to key players, but Wapping's goalkeeper and defence remained resilient, blocking shots and intercepting through balls.

Head coach Leigh Maasdorp will take the positives from a solid defensive display, earning the team's first clean sheet of the season. Although they would have hoped for a win, the draw ensures that OGs remain competitive in the league, with more opportunities to climb the table in the coming weeks.

Wapping, meanwhile, will be pleased to have earned their first point of the season after three consecutive losses. Their defensive organisation frustrated OGs and proved their ability to compete at this level.

The 0-0 result keeps OGs sitting in the middle of the table, but with more consistent performances, they'll aim to secure more points as the season progresses.
