Old Georgians Ladies 1XI Fall Short in Hard-Fought Battle Against Hampstead & Westminster

25/11/2025

Old Georgians Ladies 1XI faced a tough challenge against Hampstead & Westminster W2, suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat at Paddington Recreation Ground. Despite a spirited effort and a goal from captain Gemma Doran, the OGs couldn’t overcome their disciplined opposition in this closely contested encounter.

The match started with a dynamic first quarter as both teams fought for control. Hampstead & Westminster came out strong, but the OGs matched their intensity, showing excellent defensive organisation. The breakthrough came in the 42nd minute when Bente Eggink capitalised on a rare defensive lapse to give the hosts a 1-0 lead early in the third quarter.

The Old Georgians quickly responded. In a flash of brilliance, Gemma Doran levelled the score with a superb finish in the same minute, ensuring the match was wide open heading into the latter stages. The equaliser energised the visitors, who pressed high and created several chances. Orna Bools and Doran were instrumental in applying pressure, but the Hampstead defence held firm.

As the clock ticked down, Hampstead & Westminster found a decisive moment. In the 66th minute, Siofra Murdoch converted a penalty corner with precision, restoring their lead and sealing the win. The OGs fought valiantly in the dying moments, but the Hampstead defence absorbed the pressure to deny them an equaliser.

The defeat leaves Old Georgians with much to reflect on as they head into their next fixture. Despite the result, there were positives to take, particularly from Doran’s leadership and the team’s ability to compete against a well-organised opponent.

Old Georgians will look to bounce back next week as they continue their campaign, determined to build on the lessons from this challenging match.
