Winning Streak Extended with Dominant Victory Over Hampstead & Westminster

12/11/2024

Old Georgians Men's 1XI continued their incredible run in the Men's Premier Division, securing a resounding 5-0 victory over Hampstead & Westminster at Paddington Recreation Ground. This triumph marks their ninth consecutive win this season, keeping them undefeated at the top of the league and further solidifying their dominance.

The match began with Old Georgians asserting control from the outset. The team's intensity paid off early, as Sam Ward broke the deadlock in the 8th minute, converting a precise penalty corner that left the Hampstead defence scrambling. This early lead set the tone for the match, with Old Georgians looking aggressive in attack and composed in defence.

Hampstead & Westminster struggled to find a way past Old Georgians' rock-solid backline, bolstered by the international experience of George Pinner in goal. Pinner's commanding presence between the posts was instrumental in shutting down Hampstead's few opportunities, and he ultimately secured his first clean sheet of the season, a testament to both his skill and the disciplined defence in front of him.

As the second quarter progressed, Old Georgians continued to dominate possession. Just four minutes into the second half, Ward struck again, this time from open play in the 39th minute, extending the lead to 2-0. He completed his hat-trick in the 40th minute, again finding the net with clinical precision.

The fourth quarter saw Old Georgians ramp up the pressure further. Tom Carson added his name to the scoresheet in the 58th minute, executing a penalty corner with deadly accuracy. Just four minutes later, Carson struck again, taking the score to 4-0 and effectively sealing Hampstead's fate. Ward rounded off a memorable evening for Old Georgians with his fourth goal in the 64th minute, concluding an exceptional individual and team performance.

With the clean sheet secured, George Pinner's performance in goal was particularly noteworthy. His positioning and swift reflexes thwarted any potential breakthroughs from Hampstead, underscoring his importance to the team's defensive stability.

As Old Georgians look ahead to their next fixture against second-placed Surbiton, they do so with confidence and momentum. The match at St George's College promises to be an exciting clash, with Surbiton eager to close the gap at the top. For now, however, Old Georgians remain comfortably at the summit, boasting a perfect record and a formidable goal difference that cements their position as the team to beat this season.

Up next for the Old Georgians is a home match, 1800 on Saturday 16th November, against fierce rivals Surbiton. Stay tuned to the socials for details of the live stream.
