Old Georgians Dominate Holcombe 5-2 to Maintain Unbeaten Run

15/10/2024

Old Georgians secured a 5-2 victory against Holcombe in a match where discipline and precision played a significant role. The game at Holcombe Park started with a setback for Old Georgians when Chris Griffiths received a green card in the 9th minute. However, OGs soon took control of the match, with Phil Roper netting a field goal in the 21st minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Tom Carson doubled their advantage just after halftime, scoring a penalty corner in the 39th minute. Sam Ward followed with another penalty corner goal in the 42nd minute, making it 3-0 early in the third quarter.

Holcombe responded with two penalty corner goals of their own—first through Mubashar Ali in the 45th minute and then Teague Marcano in the 49th—bringing the score to 3-2 and offering a glimmer of hope for the hosts.

However, OGs swiftly regained control of the game. James Carson struck with a field goal in the 61st minute, restoring their two-goal lead. After receiving a green card in the 53rd minute, Sam Ward added his second goal of the match in the 68th minute, sealing a commanding 5-2 victory.

Holcombe’s struggle was compounded by a green card issued to Tim Neild in the 66th minute, hampering their efforts for a comeback. Old Georgians’ ability to capitalise on penalty corners and impressive play in the open field proved too much for Holcombe.

With this victory, Old Georgians remain unbeaten at the top of the league, extending their winning streak to four matches. Their consistent ability to perform under pressure and convert opportunities keeps them in control of the Premier Division, while Holcombe must regroup as they continue their campaign. OG’s formidable form, exemplified by standout performances from players like Sam Ward, Phil Roper, and Tom Carson, shows why they remain the team to beat this season.
